Exhibit STATEMENT

"Reflection" is inspired by travel and the brightness of the Italian and tropical islands' nature: sun-kissed hills, seaside views, pink houses, and beautiful trees. Dyshlov’s ideas are born from simple events and observations, such as the bright blue of the sky on a clear summer day. This art is fed from musical and ethereal forces that weave through his soul. He uses a lot of texture, layers, and thoroughly builds the compositions of his acrylic paintings. His hands represent the years of technical training and have a great influence over how the imagination is realized on the canvas.

About the Artist

Dyshlov’s landscapes are stylized images inspired by Italian and island landscapes. His etchings are precise and sculptural renderings of phantasmagorical creatures. His figurative paintings of women in leisurely and everyday activities are cubist in nature.

Val Dyshlov was born in Siberia, in a family of priest who knew six languages. Val lived in Ukraine until 1995 when he moved to the US. His Master of Fine Arts degree in Graphics is from a school now known as the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. Dyshlov later taught drawing and headed the Graphics laboratory at the Academy.

Dyshlov started exhibiting in the 1980s in Russian non-conformist shows. He was accepted into the prestigious Union of Artists of the USSR in 1982. Since 1995, he has exhibited in NYC, Europe and internationally. His recent shows were in Red Bank, NJ, Oyster Point hotel, Monmouth Museum, Art Alliance and Guild of Creative Art.
Dyshlov's work is in the permanent collection of The Yuko Nii Foundation, Fantasmus Art collection, Denmark; the Phantasten Museum collection, Vienna, Austria; the Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University, NJ; the Norton Dodge Collection, MD; and the Artist House Collection, Moscow, Russia.

He has been  teaching in New Jersey since 1999. His students have attended the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), the Art Institute of Chicago and Ivy League schools. He currently teaches art to seniors and portfolio prep to teenagers.
