Monmouth Museum Presents: Narwhal: Revealing an Arctic Legend

Main Gallery Hours:

Tuesdays - Sundays: 10am-4pm

Monmouth Museum will invite visitors to “Meet the Unicorn of the Sea” when it hosts Narwhal: Revealing an Arctic Legend, a Smithsonian traveling exhibition!

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History’s Narwhal: Revealing an Arctic Legend will debut at the Monmouth Museum this fall. Running from October 2025 through January 11, 2026, this immersive exhibit explores the mystical and mysterious life of the narwhal—an elusive marine mammal with a long, spiral tusk that has sparked imagination and folklore for generations!

Narwhal: Revealing an Arctic Legend takes visitors beneath the icy surface to learn about the narwhal’s biology, migration patterns, and cultural significance through the lens of both Inuit communities and scientific researchers. Through an enormous life-sized model, innovative displays, and first-hand accounts, the exhibit invites audiences of all ages to discover how traditional knowledge and cutting-edge science combine to help us better understand the narwhal and the fragile Arctic environment it inhabits.

Erika Schaefer, Executive Director of the Monmouth Museum shares, “We are thrilled to bring such an inspiring and timely exhibition to our community. Narwhal not only showcases the natural wonder of these fascinating creatures but also highlights the importance of Indigenous knowledge and the urgency of environmental conservation.”

The exhibition is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) and was developed by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.

Special programming will be announced in the near future, including guided tours and workshops, as well as the Museum’s popular Noon Year’s Eve and Holiday events.

We are currently looking for exhibit sponsors and supporters! Dedicate a section to a loved one or have your company logo on our marketing materials.
