New Audio System Enhances the Museum Experience thanks to NJ Cultural TRUST GRANT

Visitors to the Monmouth Museum may have noticed something new during a recent exhibition opening, storytime, or guided tour. Thanks to support from the New Jersey Cultural Trust, the Museum has installed a new public address and audio system designed to improve the experience of visitors throughout our galleries and children's space.

The $17,895 grant was awarded through the Institutional and Financial Stabilization Grants for Arts Organizations program and allowed the Museum to make an important investment in its communications infrastructure.

The new system is already making a difference.

Besides its daily use, it was a highlight to have in place during the opening reception for Pigment of Your Imagination by Justin “Lefty” Lefkowitz in the Nilson Gallery and during the opening of Native Americans of New Jersey: Past & Present in the Main Gallery. Guests throughout the galleries were able to hear welcoming remarks, artist and partner introductions, and information about the exhibitions.

The system is also being used for Wonder Wing storytimes and school and camp guided tours, helping our educators communicate with children and families in some of the Museum's busiest spaces.

This investment comes at an exciting time for the Monmouth Museum. In July 2026, attendance increased approximately 55 percent compared with July 2025. As we welcome more visitors, families, school groups, and community partners, having the right infrastructure in place becomes even more important.

The new system will support much more than programs and special events. It will also be used for emergency broadcasts, allowing Museum staff to quickly communicate important information and instructions to visitors throughout the building in the case of an emergency. The Museum is currently testing this capability and developing procedures for its use.

We are also exploring opportunities for bilingual and prerecorded tours, which will help us continue to make the Museum more accessible and welcoming to the communities we serve.

We are grateful to the New Jersey Cultural Trust for investing in the long-term strength of the Monmouth Museum and helping us improve how we communicate, educate, and connect with our visitors.

Made possible by funds from the New Jersey Cultural Trust.
